What is the PDO Thread Lift?

The PDO Thread Lift is a treatment which lifts and tightens sagging skin tissue, using absorbable suture threads made of Polydioxanone (PDO). The threads are gently inserted into the deeper layers of the skin. Once introduced, the threads can produce 3 effects in the skin:

• Instant Skin Lifting through mechanical effects
• Cellular Renewel, through Collagen stimulation, and neovascularisation to improve skin texture, fine lines and elasticity
• Skin Tightening, by contracting fat tissue

About 6 months after the procedure, the PDO threads will disappear through simple hydrolysis (they are absorbable). After the initial placement, you may be somewhat aware of the threads for a few days or weeks but they are not really visible or felt from the surface. The lifted facial contours will remain for about 3-6 months more, due to the cellular rejuvenation effects. Additional thread placement can be done (this is optional) around 3-6 months from the first to boost results even longer while using fewer threads than what was required originally. Your skin cells are stimulated to produce new collagen, and new blood vessels to improve skin microcirculation. At the same time, the PDO threads cause the fat tissue to contract, producing a skin tightening and facial slimming effect.

A PDO Thread Lift is a minimally invasive procedure. After numbing and infusion of local anesthesia, the PDO threads are inserted via sharp or blunt tip needles (called cannulas) into deeper layers of the skin. Once inserted, the threads anchor the skin and lift it upwards. The excess threads are then cut off.

Depending on the areas treated and the number of threads used, the procedure takes 15-40 minutes. There can be some (usually mild) discomfort during the procedure and some aches then twinges for a few days afterwards. The more lifting done, the more noticeable the twinges will be but there are NO incisions and pretty minimal social downtime for most patients.

There are multiple different thread types and uses. Some will smooth lines and firm skin, some will volumize and some will lift. You just indicate the effect you want and where you want it, I will work with you to plan the best approach. There are subtle differences to placement of each PDO thread type. The PDO threads to smooth or add volume are placed quickly just under the skin. Lifting thread placement takes just a few more steps but they are still placed in just minutes. There are no incisions.
